Acne…pimple….black head….white head…..those nasty breakouts…. we all must have ‘faced’ them some time or the other, haven’t we?
In fact, many of us try over the counter ointments or home remedies to cure them. Sometimes they work, temporarily, sometimes they don’t.

Here are 5 amazing essential oils for treating acne:
- Tea Tree Oil
It carries anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that also reduces skin inflammation and lessens redness.
Try this: Add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to one tablespoon of raw honey. Apply to affected areas, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes, wash off.
- Lavender oil
It is a known fact that stress aggravates acne and can cause more pimples to appear Lavender oil is not only a great help at destroying acne-causing bacteria, but it also helps to reduce stress at the same time. So, this makes lavender oil an important ingredient in stress-related acne outbreaks.
How to use: Mix2-3 drops of lavender oil with jojoba or sweet almond oil and apply it on the infected area twice a day. OR
Mix a few drops of lavender oil with fresh lemon juice and dab on acne with cotton.
Rosemary essential oil has compounds that eliminate excess oil from the skin, kill off bacteria and reduce redness and swelling in clogged pores. It also helps to repair damaged skin and reduce scars.
How to use: Mix a few drops of Rosemary oil in castor oil or jojoba oil. Massage the oil into your skin for a few minutes and then wipe clean with a warm face towel.
It is a great essential oil as it removes blackheads safely out of pores by tightening and drying the skin around the black heads. It also has antibacterial properties that prevent any infection or acne in the pore from which the blackhead has been removed.
Try this blackhead-removing mask: After taking steam on your face, gently squeeze the softened blackheads with a tissue to remove them. Mix 1 tsp baking soda, 1 drop lemon essential oil and enough water to form a paste. Rub onto your blackheads then wash off after 10 minutes.
The antiseptic & anti-inflammatory properties of eucalyptus essential oil help in preventing as well as healing acne and pimples. It reduces oil from acne prone skin & dry up pimples.
Try this: Mix 1 drop of eucalyptus oil in 2 to 3 teaspoons of pure Aloe Vera gel and apply this onto your acne.
Depending on your skin type and severity of your acne, it may take some time before you notice any results. So, keep a little patience and try a combination of different essential oils for acne to find the perfect balance for your skin.
